There have been great advancements in the field of polymeric materials during the last two decades, so much so that we can not imagine a product that does not contain them

The Polymers Laboratory is considered to be one of the best equipped in Mexico. The Laboratory consists of three major areas: Polymeric Standardization, Pre-Processed Development and Mechanic Tests. Our department employs doctorate and post-doctorate level researchers with expertise in the area of innovative materials. We have the capacity to develop and optimize any type of process and product relating to polymers.

Area of Process Development

In the processing area of polymers we have the capacity to reproduce any process of transformation that is currently in use in order to provide solutions to problems that affect the quality of finished products. We are also able to evaluate and design reliable methods of transformation conforming to laboratory standards that are employed in the following industries:

  • Rubber and Plastics
  • Reology of Polymers
  • Suspensions, Emulsions
  • Adhesives (limited)
  • Floculants

We support the latest, most current technologies. We are able to develop optimum processes, to solve problems that affect the quality of the finished product, to evaluate and design reliable methods of transformation at the bench and plant level in order to obtain optimal quality and prevent defects.

We have the most advanced systems in evaluation of operations of mixing and extrusion. We are also able to recommend optimum systems of operation to prevent energy waste.

We also offer lean manufacture.

We are effective because we know the needs of businesses.

We have Bambry-type internal mixers and externals (mill with open rollers) thermo-plastic extrusion, entirely automated and the instruments have accurate measurement in order to ensure reliable processes.

We are able to reproduce all the manufacturing operations with polymers including analysis and evaluation, as well as any operation involving mixing, extrusion, laminating, molding for compression, term conforming and injection of any type of material.

The Area of Molecular Standardization

In this area we have the capacity to obtain a genuine standardization of polymeric materials, as well as, coating in the tanning industry, by means of developed analytical methods and application of chemical analytical instruments. Included is the study of macromolecules, additives, pigments, solvents, and others.

By means of using the thermal analysis method with a kind of thermometer (DSC) we can know the changes of energy that a substance undergoes through variations in temperature. This is very important information in order to obtain fusion temperature values, decomposition, TC temperature and other parameters.

We work with:

Infrared Spectometry: This technique gives us information about the chemical composition and structure of the polymers and mixtures.

Gas Chromatography which quantifies the organic components that evaporates. .

Permeation Chromatography of gel (GPC) for the distribution of molecular weights, very useful because these values directly affect the physical properties of the polymers and also give us a better idea of how these materials will behave during the processes of extrusion, mixing, injection and etc, so that you may be better able to propose the most adequate material.

Rotational Reometer - This method compares the variation of viscosity with changes in temperature or other determined forces (pressures and stress) for all kinds of oils, adhesives, polymer finishes as well as coatings,

We also have different types of geometries which adapt to the sample types to be analyzed and along with the aforementioned equipment; we are able to provide unique services to the community with respect to quality assurance, the use of raw materials, research, and optimization of conditions, processes and the development of new products.

We are able to help you make the best decisions.
Physical-Mechanical Evaluation

Physical and mechanical evaluations are essential part of measuring the quality of the finished products. These tests are conducted with reliable equipment and following the strictest international norms.

Accelerated aging tests for UV radiation and oxidation degraded and continued exposure for polyurethane (EVA) or phylon, finished leather and textiles.

Traction tests (tension), compression and exhaust for rubber melting products, plastics, thermoplastic textiles.

Reometry testing for compounds of rubber and behavior analysis

In addition we offer support to Physical Test Laboratories and Chemical Analysis which together can give you the most complete results in the country.
