CIATEC, A.C. (CIATEC) is a leading public center in academia, research, innovation, and technological development under the SECIHTI. Since its foundation in 1976, it has made significant national and international contributions to economic and social sustainability, benefiting not only Mexico but also other economies. Initially, it provided strong support to the Footwear and Tanning industries. Over time, it expanded its expertise to other sectors, including Automotive, Manufacturing, Petrochemical, Food, Chemical, and Health industries. CIATEC specializes in multiple disciplines, such as Mechanics, Physics, Ergonomics, Biotechnology, Sustainability, Renewable Energy, Environment (Water, Soil, and Air), Metrology, Materials, Biomechanics, Industrial Design, and Information Technologies, among others.Currently, in the field of human resources training, CIATEC offers professional postgraduate programs in Footwear Design and Development and Leather Tanning. It this same area CIATEC participates in Interinstitutional Master’s and Doctorate Programs in Science and Technology; training is also prvided to transfer knowledge and technologies to users through an extensive Continuing Education Program.

We work as a team with scientists, academics, industry, and public policy leaders to strengthen and maintain leadership in technological contributions that benefit society. Our actions are backed by an innovative, sustainable, and inclusive strategy aligned with institutional and governmental objectives. We focus our resources, functions, and activities on developing human resources and scientific technologies that address national challenges, improving the quality of life and environment, and advancing Mexico’s technological, social, and economic independence.In response to current scientific and technological trends, CIATEC is undergoing a gradual transformation process that aligns with present demands and opportunities. We drive global technological and academic advancements through proprietary technologies, reaffirming our commitment to sustained growth and institutional excellence. This allows CIATEC to proactively address contemporary technological challenges and opportunities.

Our multidisciplinary team addresses current development, needs and problems with a focus on innovation for societal benefit. More than 110 specialists work at CIATEC, all highly qualified professionals in various specialties, supported by a specialized area for the appropriation  of knowledge. CIATEC has 20 researchers dedicated to scientific and technological research and innovation, 19 of whom are recognized by the National System of Researchers, with 19 also contributing to academia. Additionally, 10 technologists specialize in leather and footwear design. Professional development, innovation, and research activities take place within CIATEC extensive infrastructure, which supports diverse disciplines, including Information Technologies.

CIATEC Infrastructure: 3 Leather and Footwear Laboratories: Development, Finishing, and Leather Design; 1 Industry 4.0 Digital Manufacturing Laboratory; 6 Applied Research and Development Laboratories: Biotechnology and Environmental Research, Industrial Materials and Processes, Olfactometry, Membranes, Biodegradable and Compostable Materials, and Human Body Biomechanics; 10 Technological Solutions Laboratories, including: Metrology Laboratory covering 10 magnitudes, Automotive Airbag Testing Laboratory, Physical-Mechanical Testing Laboratory for polymeric materials, automotive parts, leather, and footwear, Chemical Analysis Laboratory for water, food, chemicals, and waste.

CIATEC is widely recognized for its technical expertise. It houses Mexico’s only Airbag Laboratory and Latin America’s only Biomechanics Laboratory. Additionally, its service laboratories hold 10 accreditations in Chemistry and Metrology. Furthermore, CIATEC boasts a leading Certification Body specializing in the certification of protective footwear, footwear for diabetics, and compostable plastics. These certifications ensure workplace safety, prevent health issues, simultaneously, contribute to the environmental protection, product circularity, and quality.

For 48 years, CIATEC has played a crucial role in the development, growth, and improvement of the regional and country, enhancing professionalization and competitiveness in businesses through technological advancements, quality improvements, and process optimization. The center has contributed to the transformation of high-quality products while promoting environmentally friendly processes and  at the same time, contributing equally to knowledge transfer to society.
